June 7th, 2011

We have some exciting news for Summer 2011! Classic Youth Theatre, Inc. is hosting a spectacular series of events to raise funds and awareness about our tuition-free children’s theater program. The children’s program itself will be dark until the new fall season, and we hope you’ll check back later for more details. In the meantime, please come to The Black Zebra 101 (home of Classic Youth Theatre, Inc.) and enjoy a concert or play to benefit our youth program.

For tickets to all performances, please call (858)794-9447.

Here is our schedule of benefit events during the month of June:

June 10th and 11th

Stogie Kenyatta: “The World is My Home – The Life of Paul Robeson”

“Using Theater as a vehicle for Social change.

Stogie Kenyatta brings a unique interpretation to the stage, where he
majestically captures the essence of Paul Robeson. Portraying 10 characters,
he chronologically takes us through the life of history’s first Black
Renaissance man & one of America’s most complex, brilliant citizens.

Magnificently performed without intermission, with props, several wardrobe
changes & an inspiring finger-snapping Jazz, Bebop, Gospel, Big band
soundtrack. The play opens as Robeson’s father, a 15-year-old runaway slave,
rides the Underground Railroad to freedom. As laugh-out-loud funny &
entertaining as it is educational.”

Tickets $15 in advance; $20 at the door; $5 children

8:00 p.m. curtain

June 17th

Todd Day Wait

“Stories of folk, raw feelin’ blues, simple country, everything gospel,
kickin’ rock, being yourself through reggae, the realness of jam, a
different look through psychedelic and body-movin’ music through Memphis
soul and New Orleans funk. Look inside yourself, you will find everything you
need to know.”

Tickets $8 in advance; $10 at the door

Todd goes on at 8:00 p.m.

June 18th

The Art of Silent War + Guests

“The Art of Silent War formed in San Diego when guitarist Danny Ortega and
singer/songwriter Stephanie Nesbitt decided they wanted a music project that
allowed them to be creative and put together a driving force of songs that
were catchy, fun, and ready for the radio.

With a mixed sound that could relate to bands such as Paramore and artists
such as Eisley, The Art of Silent War is all about the creative force behind
music and how to gently walk that fine line between expression and
marketability. They’re talented at their craft, well versed in music, and
have a passion that shows in their stage performances.”

Joined by artists who will have their artwork for sale at the event:

Ahmet Ustunel

Carey Soghomonian

Gabriel Trujillo

Jeremy Merrill

Tickets $8 in advance; $10 at the door

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

June 25th

Prairie Tenor String Band

“Raw, honest, and from the gut, the Prairie Tenor String Band is an echo of a
time before the mass commercialization of music, when music was not in the
hands of corporate executives, but in the hearts of common people. With a
repertoire of old-time favorites, folk melodies, and working-class anthems,
this string band is sure to get your spirits high and your feet on the floor.”

Tickets $7

Band goes on at 8:00 p.m.

Importance of Being Earnest Auditions and Workshop!

January 6th, 2010

The Importance of Being Earnest is a comic play by Oscar Wilde. Set in England during the late Victorian era, the play’s humor derives in part from characters maintaining fictitious identities to escape unwelcome social obligations. It is replete with witty dialogue and satirizes some of the foibles and hypocrisy of late Victorian society. It has proved Wilde’s most enduringly popular play.

Classic Youth Theatre will be holding a 5 day Directors Workshop: Cost $85

You do not have to take the workshop in order to audition. There are no audition requirements. Youths wishing to audition (ages 8-18) will be asked to do a cold reading from the play. There is no cost to participate in the production.

To sign up for the workshop call Loralie at 760-632-9447 or pay for the workshop through PayPal at www.classicyouththeatre.org

Classic Youth Theatre is to be awarded $1100!

July 9th, 2009

Classic Youth Theatre gives a big thanks to the City of Encinitas and the Mizel Family Foundation for granting us a generous $1100, giving us the opportunity to bring our highly anticipated Dracula performance into the community of Encinitas. We would also like to give a thanks to all those parents and our sponsors who had greatly supported our last show, Saint Joan. It was our biggest show yet, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of Encinitas’s community. Thank you.
